I help individuals and families use their money to live well and to move the world in a better direction. My practice centers on sustainable investing, meaning portfolios built with attention to environmental, social, and governance issues, paired with comprehensive financial planning.
Most clients start with a planning engagement. Over a series of meetings we work through your values and goals, cash flow, insurance and risk management, estate and philanthropic plans, and long-term projections, then finish with specific recommendations and next steps. I trained in life planning through the Kinder Institute, so our early conversations focus on what you want your life to look like, not just the numbers. If you'd like ongoing investment management, I'll present a portfolio proposal at the end of the plan.
I bring a global lens to this work. I've lived in the Americas and Europe and visited about 50 countries, and I find that perspective helps make sense of the economy and markets. I also have particular experience helping clients through life transitions, and I'm happy to meet in any of the six languages I speak.

Before joining Formative, I founded Silvergreen Sustainable Investments. Earlier I was a lead advisor at Toler Financial Group and founded Pavlov Financial Planning, a retainer-based practice serving Gen X and Gen Y clients in the Washington, DC area. My background before advising includes equity analysis, financial education, and international finance.
Recognized as 2023 Planner of the Year by the Financial Planning Association National Capital Area chapter.*
I serve on the board of the Financial Planning Association National Capital Area chapter, where I co-chair the pro bono planning section, and I've worked with the CFP Board as a subject matter expert writing and reviewing exam questions since 2013. Locally, I volunteer pro bono planning with Britepaths, which supports financial empowerment for working families, and I've served on the board of ABRACE, a nonprofit supporting the Brazilian-American community, since 2019. I was also president of the Arlington Traditional School PTA in 2021–22, guiding it through COVID and a principal search.
I grew up in Rio de Janeiro, where I saw extreme inequality up close and became an environmentalist after watching a sewage spill hit a local beach as a kid. Years later, flying over the interior of Brazil, I saw the Amazon burning. Those experiences shaped why I do this work. Today I live in Arlington, VA with my wife Julia and our children, Alex and Angie.
